To compensate for my severe lack of blogging and for leaving a picture of Brick on the potty as the main photo for 26 days, I'm simply going to give you an update of what we've been doing for the last month or so in pictures. I'd love to elaborate on the details, but that would mean this post would have been delayed even more than it already has.
At the beginning of August, Bryan and I took our first kid-free vacation since our trip to San Francisco in July of 2006.
My parents came into town to watch the kids. The day we left Austin also happened to be the day of the Central Texas Ballooning Association's Annual Flight Over Lake Austin. So, we got everyone up super early in time to see the balloons. Unfortunately, the winds never quite took the balloons OVER Lake Travis, but I still managed to get some pretty shots in.

For our trip, we went to Las Vegas to meet up with some other my photography buddies from all over the country. I had such a blast with these gals. I can't wait until we can all get together again.

Photo courtesy of Stacey ThomasBryan and I took a couple of extra days to explore the city by ourselves. We rented this fun little scooter car and cruised up and down the Vegas Strip.

And yes, of course, we made it out to the sign so I could snap a couple of shots.

And we treated ourselves to an outlandishly extravagant dinner at The Bellagio's
Prime where this was the view from our table:

I dragged Bryan all over Vegas so I could try to get some artistic shots of the sites (my location photography could definitely use some work)

Of course, Bryan's favorite part of all of this is having his picture taken with his arm around some strange statue.

The week after we came back, we had our first annual, quarterly, who knows how often it'll happen BV Kids day at work. I bravely brought BOTH kids into the office. It was a lot of fun having all the kids around even though I'm sure productivity was at an all-time low. Brick enjoyed raiding the kitchen for miscellaneous cereals and getting office-chair rides from the CEO's assistant, while Calla was passed around and cuddled by all the office moms until she'd finally had enough.

Also in August, Brick accomplished a significant childhood "milestone" his first trip to the emergency room requiring stitches. He had a bad fall at daycare and punctured the area just above his lip. He had to get 2-3 stitches in his face, another stitch or two in his lip and several stitches on the inside of his mouth, where most of the damage was (darn teeth).

He was really a trooper about the whole ordeal. Except for the actual getting stitches part of the day, he barely complained at all. Having gone through this experience though, I have a whole new level of sympathy for parents. It was not fun having to wrangle Brick along with 2 nurses and Bryan just to keep him still enough for the doctor to do his work. All the while Brick was looking up at me with the most pitiful eyes, crying "Mommy?! Daddy?! Get me out of here! It hurts!"
Immediately after the surgery, he was licking his wounds as any curious 2-year-old might have done. Unfortunately, one of the stitches popped out, which meant the nurses and the doctor were called back in, we all assumed our positions and constrained Brick while he went through the whole ordeal a second time. Needless to say, he didn't touch the stitches one bit after that happened.
Calla's month was significantly less eventful. There was plenty the cuteness we've come to know and love from her. She's now officially crawling, and pulling up. and clapping, and waving. She's taken an interest in foods again, even though she still has no teeth. She's fully weaned, which has been awkward and refreshing for me all in the same instant.

Of course, the trade-off to all this excitement and movement and change is that Calla's not quite as cooperative when I pull out my camera as she once
used to be.

Thanks for keeping up with us!
