My First Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day was really quite enjoyable. As a kid, celebrating Mother's Day was an obvious one. As a mom, it falls somewhere between Valentine's Day and my birthday in terms of its excitement factor. My birthday is quite possibly one of my most favorite days of the year because it's unique to just me and everyone makes such a fuss over you. Mother's Day is similar in that everyone makes a fuss, but it seems more like Valentine's Day in that it could pass, we could do nothing special, and it really wouldn't offend me because the holiday has a certain contrived feeling about it. Make sense? It does to me.
Anyway, to celebrate this Mother's Day, Bryan and I went to dinner, sans-Brick on Friday night. It was fun strolling around The Streets at Southpoint and checking out all the performers while enjoying a "good time" (codeword for milk and cookies).
Saturday, we went to the Carolina Outlet Center in Smithfield and primarily walked around. I picked up a few pairs of "transition" jeans since my postpartum weight loss isn't happening quite as a rapidly as I might like it to.
While at the Outlet Center, we witnessed a genuine parking lot confrontation. The kind you always hear about around Christmastime, but never actually witness. Check out the woman on the far right in the picture to the right. She was apparently waiting on a spot when a vibrant, 20-something pulled into the spot before her. The first woman pulled her car up behind the 20-something, blocking her into the spot. She then proceeded to get out of her car and yell about how she'd been waiting for the spot. This whole ordeal lastest fewer than 5 minutes and resulted in the 20-something surrendering the spot to the angry woman. The funny thing is there were plenty of spots available. It must have just been about the principle of it all!
On Sunday, Brick decided to give me a little Mother's Day present of his own and slept in until nearly 6:30 (6:21AM to be exact)! That's a complete 10 hours of sleep for him, which roughly translates into a full night's sleep for me. I can't believe he's sleeping so well through the night. We made it out of bed in time to get to the early service at church. We spent the rest of the day relaxing and catching up on things around the house. All in all, not a bad day.
